Erin Brockovich News: Update on Lafarge Cement Plant in Ravena

Erin Brockovich highlights ongoing testing in Ravena involving Lafarge Cement Plant

March 26, 2010--A New York wildlife pathologist is scheduled to update the Ravena community in a few days on the Lafarge Cement Plant and pollution that may be emanating from the plant. Erin Brockovich last visited the community in September to let area families know that have the right to learn the truth about any corporations that are responsible for contamination.

According to The Daily Mail newspaper, Dr. Ward Stone will reveal his research on March 30. It will reportedly contain information from an analysis of samples taken near the Lafarge Cement Plant located in Ravena.

Dr. Stone will discuss his finding in a meeting, hosted by advocacy group Community Advocates for Safe Emissions, according to The Daily Mail. The meeting will be held at the Ravena VFW Hall on Whitbeck Street, near Mosher Park at 7 p.m. March 30 and is free of charge. Stone's anaylsis thus far has revealed high levels of mercury.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Lafarge reported mercury emissions of between 380 and 400 pounds per year from 2003 to 2006. The plant's 2008 estimate was 146 pounds.
