In recent news, drug giant Bayer AG, the largest drug company in Germany, was accused in a lawsuit of disregarding health risks of the birth control pill Yaz and promoting the drug as safe to increase sales, according to Bloomberg News.

The contraceptives Yaz and Yasmin, have a four times increased risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism compared with other contraceptives, according to the lawsuit, filed by two women in Canada.

Bloomberg reports that Yaz and Yasmin were Bayer’s best-selling drugs in 2008, bringing in about $1.8 billion.
